With various membership opportunities available, we welcome all who wish to contribute to our cause. Whether you’re drawn to the action on the front lines or prefer to provide essential support behind the scenes, your involvement is invaluable.

Applicants who pass the below criteria will be contacted and scheduled for an interview:
- Be eighteen (18) years of age or older to apply for all positions except explorer
- 14–18 years of age for Explorer
- Be a United States citizen
- Possess a current CT driver’s license
- Have an acceptable driving record
- Pass a criminal background investigation. The background and processing can take several weeks, so we ask you please be patient.
- Successfully pass a Department physical examination and drug screening
- Be available to attend mandatory training and drills as outlined in the Department Bylaws
Prior to responding to calls, members must:
- Pass a physical exam by department specified, occupational medical provider
- Participate in Blood-borne Airborne Pathogens training
- Participate in Hazmat Awareness training
- Participate in Live Burn training
Membership Duties
To include but not limited to:
Firefighters
- Perform fire extinguishing tasks
- Perform lifesaving operations
- Motor vehicle incidents
- Water rescue
- Rope Rescue
- Hazardous materials
- Weather Emergencies
- Other calls for service
To be an interior firefighter, you must pass the state firefighter 1 certification.
Fire Police
- Protect the scene and fire personnel by providing traffic control
- Crowd control
- Assist department with training and special events
Support Services
- Assist with firefighter rehabilitation
- Provide refreshments to emergency scene, training, large scale incidents
Training Requirements
To include but not limited to the following. Members must attend:
- Weekly training sessions (see calendar)
- Yearly Live Burn
- Yearly SCBA mask fit test
- Yearly Hazardous Materials Operational training
- Yearly Blood-borne & Airborne exposure training
- Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation certification (2-year cert)
- Quarterly training to include ladders, air packs, tools, extrication, rescue, Haz-Mat
