Event description:

Powerful storytelling by a firefighter who beat the odds and paved the way for future generations—and the mural artist she inspired.

ONE FIREFIGHTER’S STORY OF RESILIENCE
Whether you’re inspired by stories of courage, curious about the firefighting profession, or simply looking for an evening of powerful storytelling, this event promises to be one you won’t soon forget.

Melissa Bennett defied the odds to become one of an elite group of female firefighters. Since then, she has dedicated her life to protecting others, often at great personal risk. Her journey is a testament to resilience.

EXPERIENCE THE LARGER-THAN-LIFE MURAL SHE INSPIRED
Melissa’s story so inspired artist Ellen Griesedieck that she set out to portray Melissa on a massive scale, as part of the larger-than-life indoor mural—five stories high and 120 feet long—at the American Mural Project (AMP). Attendees will have the opportunity to explore the mural exhibit from three viewing levels before the talk.

JOIN THE CONVERSATION ABOUT COURAGE AND ART
Ellen will talk with Melissa about the camaraderie and the challenges of working alongside her firefighting team at Engine 257 in Canarsie, NY, and the realities of facing danger head on .

There will be time for Q&A with the audience.

THE MURAL EXHIBIT
The centerpiece of the American Mural Project (AMP) is the incredible indoor mural—120 feet long and five stories high—that celebrates American workers on a grand scale. With the mural as the backdrop, and three tiers for viewing, attendees have a multifaceted experience of the power of work—and workers—to make a difference.

DOORS at 4pm, EVENT at 5pm

AMP invites registrants to arrive at 4pm to explore the mural exhibit. Snacks and bar beverages will be available for purchase. The talk begins at 5pm. Parking is free.
